The Drunken Canal's Just Two Girls Mix
Welcome to the tenth episode of Post Up Radio. We made it to double digits without crumbling thanks to you lovely people who open up our emails and listen to our mixes every week.
Here to help us celebrate are the lovely ladies of The Drunken Canal, the funniest, and most biased newspaper in Lower Manhattan. Claire Banse and Gutes Guterman are the masterminds and editors behind everyone’s favorite news source, making sure the best cocktail recipes, hottest gossip, and recently cancelled columns are packed with top-level intel. The newspaper is exclusively available in print, at an unmarked box on the corner of Canal & Essex, in the heart of Dimes Square. This use of the printing press is an intentional decision to stray away from the infographics, thirst traps and temporary content of social media, and to create something tangible, that you can read even if your wifi is bugging. If you’re not able to make it to the box to pick up a copy, you can subscribe to their Patreon to be mailed two copies per month. If you’re curious about more info on The Drunken Canal, check out recent coverage from The New York Times, GQ and Interview Magazine.
The Drunken Canal’s Just Two Girls Mix is now streaming on Post Up Radio

BONUS CONTENT ALERT: We’re including the crossword puzzle that was published in the most recent issue of The Drunken Canal at the bottom of this email. If you can fill it out correctly without cheating (we trust you), email us with the answers at info@postup.online and you’ll be entered in to a raffle to win something special.
What inspired you to start the #1 biased news in New York?
Claire: Aperol spritzes and the NY Daily News. We were really bored of aggressive social media pushes and people posting for performative action. There was the boom of the infographic and everyone was posting the same content, at a certain point it stopped being productive and was more of a performance. We wanted to explore how we could make news fun again for our friends. How can we make a funny joke for our friends, that’s also fun to read? It ended up being fun for more than just our friends.
What are the five most essential spots in Lower Manhattan?
Claire and Gutes: Clandestino, Lucien, E-Smoke, The swings in Seward Park, Convive Wine & Spirits (because they have a bidet).
What’s your hottest take?
Gutes: The best kind of salad dressing is olive oil and lemon exclusively.
Claire: Chocolate chip cookies are the #1 breakfast food, they should be the biggest. They’re a great way to build your day.
Gutes: Chocolate chip cookies should be their own category in the food pyramid.
Who’s your dream columnist for The Drunken Canal?
Claire: We always really wanted Cat Marnell to write for us, but we did that. Now it’s Anna Delvey, Hunter Biden or Chet Hanks.
What’s the first thing you’re doing when NYC establishments hit 100% capacity?
Claire and Gutes: Karaoke, without a doubt. And everyone’s invited.
What’s going to be each of your first karaoke song?
Claire: That’s tricky for me, I’ve been spending time figuring out what this should be. I’ve concluded for now that it’s either “What’s Up” by 4 Non Blondes, or “Santeria” by Sublime. Possibly even “7 Things” by Miley Cyrus.
Gutes: I’m going in guns blazing, rawdogging it with “Like a G6” by Far East Movement.
Gutes, we heard a rumor that you don’t listen to music. Can you speak on that?
I don’t really listen to music anymore, this mix is a Post Up exclusive, the only playlist I’ll ever publicly make. I used to listen to music, now I don’t really, but when I do I listen to Philip Glass. I don’t even have a pair of headphones. But when I did I’d listen to a lot of Pop Smoke in the morning.
What’s your go-to cocktail?
Claire and Gutes (simultaneously): Dirty vodka martini.
