Santangelo's Saturday Morning Mix
Hey there. It’s been a minute.
We are still alive here at Post Up Radio, just had to do a lil cross-country move.
Now that we’re properly situated, we’re looking forward to bringing you mixes from some of our favorite people again. We’ll be moving to a bi-weekly basis, but will still bring you major heat on a regular schedule.
This week’s guest is the illustrious Santangelo, an artist of many mediums based in New York. Certain people are often described as creative Swiss army knives, but Santangelo is really one of those people that can crush any project handed to him. He’s a musician, he’s a graphic designer, he’s a brand strategist, he’s a guerrilla advertising mastermind. He’s that guy. He’s worked on cover art for Noname, and art direction for Keep Cool, among other projects. You can listen to his music here.
Santangelo's Saturday Morning Mix is now streaming on Post Up Radio

What inspired you about growing up in Atlanta?
OutKast had such a cultural stronghold on the city. My father was really tapped into the music world there, so getting an early glimpse at T.I. was big. There was also an artist named Skinny Pimp who was an OG on my dad’s record label.
What’s the deal with your dad’s record label?
It was kind of crazy, my parents always went to the source awards. My dad was always trying to get a hit, but kept on producing street music. I spent a lot of time in the studio’s building growing up. I recorded a song there when I was really young. I remember telling my mom I didn’t want to do it, because it felt like evil music. It was some dumb song written about Chuck E. Cheese. I have memories of playing hide and seek in the studios in Smyrna, Georgia.
Do you feel like recording early on gave you a glimpse of something you wanted to pursue?
Definitely, I always wanted to make music. I can’t think of a time when I didn’t want to make music. I was subconsciously thinking about not wanting to rap about weird corny stuff, but that’s evolved into a principle I still have today.
Talk to us about what AdWorld means to you
AdWorld is a glimpse into what I see as the world we live in. It’s been the last four years of my life collaged together. AdWorld is me trying to make sense of my world throughout that time period, whether that be love, politics or anything else.
What three artists dead or alive would you most want to work with, and in what capacity?
I’d work with either Richard Linklater or Wes Craven on a horror movie. I’d design public housing with Frank Lloyd Wright. I would love to get either Missy Elliot and Tyler, The Creator in the room together for an album, or Lil Wayne and Tyler together for an album. I would simply function as a producer, but getting those people to work together would be a dream.
What artists are you currently looking to for inspiration?
My style inspiration is Kevin Federline. Musically, what’s been making me actually feel things is Pavement. I’ve been revisiting a lot of rap albums that I grew up on as well. Good Kid, M.A.A.D City is one of those. There’s something about the way albums are made and released now that doesn’t feel precious enough. When I was growing up, releases felt like a risk for the artist, or that it meant something to them. Not just putting music out to keep the algorithm moving.
