We’re back here on Post Up Radio reporting live to you from the West Coast. Since being here, we’ve had the pleasure of linking up with some of our dear friends in music and are excited to bring you a mix by one of our favorite producers on the rise.
Dreamboy Oscar is a Houston native, through and through. In addition to being the guitarist and a songwriter for his band, Fade Em All, he’s been getting in rooms all around LA. On top of that, he’s the guitarist in Omar Apollo’s band, touring all across the world, playing gigs for sold out crowds. Oscar paid his dues playing in the local church, where many musicians crumble under the pressure, or emerge as diamonds ready to throw down in any session. With a great appreciation for rock and soul music, Oscar has emerged as one of the latter.

Talk to us about Fade Em All, and the band’s origins in Houston
Houston is an extremely untapped market, in every other city with a big population people know what the youth culture is. The stars haven’t aligned for our scene in Houston yet, but people like HVN and reggie who came up with us are finally breaking out. We saw where the zeitgeist was going, punk is high fashion and vice-versa. We just push it to the extreme and in 2018 knew we had to do something for the culture in Houston. We didn’t have a place to go out on the weekends, so we created the parties ourselves.
What makes you love certain guitar parts more than others?
Guitar is a great combination of beautiful and ugly, and parts that strike that balance are always my favorites.
So far, what are your favorite touring memories?
I really love just cracking jokes with Vinny and the homies on tour. Hanging out in Tokyo was amazing, shout out to Tokyo Vitamin and Aidan for showing us where to go. That place feels like you’re in the future, the society operates in a way that’s so different. London feels like the perfect urban city as well. I love New York too.
If you could set up a session with an artist and two other producers, dead or alive, what would the room be?
The artist would have to be D’Angelo. Other people I’d want to bring in the session are this jazz-funk pianist Don Blackman and the production legend Leon Ware.
You’re a true ladies man, what’s the funniest date you’ve ever been on?
There was this girl I knew from Instagram, and I always thought she was so beautiful. I struggled to get into her DMs and get a conversation going, but it finally worked and we had plans to meet the next time I was in New York. She told me to meet her at a cafe, but it turns out it was a kratom cafe. I went into it thinking I’d try anything once. When we met at the cafe, she wasn’t as cute as I’d thought, and I then realized that the girl of my dreams didn’t exist at all. I’m sitting there drinking this tea, trying to come up with an excuse to bail on her, but in the end decided it was worth it to stick around. While the date didn’t end up like I had hoped, it accelerated our friendship, and we’re still cool.
